Meet the band
Resurrection Story is a Detroit-based progressive / alternative hard rock band built around heavy grooves, melodic hooks, shifting rhythms, and atmosphere. Our music balances weight and complexity with songs that remain immediate, emotional, and human. We draw from four distinct musical perspectives, but share one vision: create authentic music, tell meaningful stories, and build a genuine connection every time we take the stage.
FRED GRENNAN | BASS
Fred Grennan picked up the bass at age 12 and quickly developed a connection to the instrument that would carry through decades of performing, writing, and creating original music. Growing up in the Detroit area placed him in the middle of a diverse and hard-working music scene that helped shape his approach as a musician.
Over the years, Fred has contributed to numerous original bands and projects, including Deceiver, The Mutes, 11 Speed, Blissfield, Free Dirt, Lobby Rats, and Woodward Smoke. That experience exposed him to a wide range of approaches to rock music while giving him extensive time on stage and in collaborative writing environments.
As a bassist, Fred combines a strong sense of groove with a melodic approach that allows the bass to function as more than simply the foundation of a song. His playing supports the rhythm section while adding movement, texture, and musical counterpoint to the guitars and vocals.
Fred also brings years of songwriting and arranging experience to Resurrection Story. His ability to hear the larger structure of a song makes him an important part of developing the band's original material, from organizing ideas and transitions to refining dynamics and arrangements.
In Resurrection Story, Fred's experience, musical instincts, and collaborative approach help anchor the band's progressive and alternative hard rock sound while continuing to push its music in new directions.
RONNIE SCHOENSTEIN | VOCALS
Ronnie Schoenstein began singing and playing piano at age nine, developing an early connection to melody, songwriting, and performance. Music quickly became a defining part of his life, and at age 17 he had the unique opportunity to perform for the Pope during a private audience.
Ronnie later became the frontman for Sedition Incorporated, gaining extensive experience performing original music and developing his identity as a vocalist and performer. During that period, he shared stages with national acts including Alien Ant Farm, Days of the New, and Fuel.
His vocal approach combines melodic range with an expressive delivery capable of moving from restrained, intimate passages to powerful and aggressive moments. That versatility allows him to navigate the contrasting dynamics that have become an important part of Resurrection Story's music.
Beyond his role as vocalist, Ronnie's lyrics and vocal melodies provide much of the emotional and narrative foundation for the band's songs. His writing explores darker and more personal territory while giving the instrumental arrangements a human perspective and a story to carry.
As the frontman for Resurrection Story, Ronnie brings those elements together onstage, connecting the band's heavier grooves, atmospheric passages, and progressive arrangements through a distinctive vocal presence that sits at the center of the band's sound.
NICK GONZALEZ | GUITAR
Nick Gonzalez is a guitarist and multi-instrumentalist whose playing blends the power of classic rock and metal with the emotion and atmosphere of alternative and cinematic music. He began playing music in fifth grade and was performing regularly by high school, beginning decades of live performance, recording, and songwriting.
Raised on a mix of Motown, Wes Montgomery, and Led Zeppelin, Nick’s passion for guitar was cemented the first time he heard Led Zeppelin’s The Ocean. That moment sparked a lifelong pursuit of tone, feel, and expressive playing.
His musical interests have since expanded across classic rock, metal, grunge, blues, R&B, folk, country, classical, fingerstyle acoustic, Latin, and new wave. He has performed with numerous original and cover bands throughout Michigan, developing a versatile style that moves naturally between atmospheric textures and driving riffs.
Beyond guitar, Nick also plays alto saxophone, bass, ukulele, percussion, and keyboards. He has taught guitar, helped support and organize Interlochen’s summer guitar program, co-hosted two music-focused radio shows on Cave Radio, and contributed to soundtrack and media music projects.
In Resurrection Story, Nick brings expressive lead work, layered textures, melodic hooks, and driving riffs to the band’s progressive and alternative hard rock sound. Whether building atmosphere or pushing into heavier territory, his focus remains on tone, dynamics, and serving the song.
MATT SABIN | DRUMS
Matt Sabin's musical foundation began early under the guidance of his father, a high school band director. He started playing drums in fourth grade and continued developing through formal study, marching percussion, and performance throughout high school and college.
His musical education eventually included Drum Corps International and collegiate performance, environments where precision, discipline, dynamics, and ensemble playing were essential. Matt later carried that experience into teaching both marching percussion and drum set, further developing his understanding of rhythm and technique.
Drawing inspiration from drummers including Phil Rudd, John Bonham, and Stewart Copeland, Matt developed an approach that combines the power and feel of rock drumming with the precision of his percussion background. His playing remains grounded in groove while allowing room for more intricate rhythmic ideas when the music calls for them.
That combination is particularly valuable within Resurrection Story's music. The band's material can move between straightforward heavy grooves, atmospheric sections, dynamic transitions, and progressive rhythmic passages, requiring a drummer who can make those changes feel musical rather than merely technical.
In Resurrection Story, Matt provides the rhythmic foundation that holds those elements together. His combination of power, precision, dynamics, and musical awareness gives the band a strong backbone while leaving space for the guitars, bass, vocals, and arrangements to breathe.
